Alternative Health Care
Dr. Nooshin K. Darvish is a licensed naturopathic physician and a Fellow in Integrative Cancer Therapies. As a holistic clinician, she integrates western, eastern medicine, naturopathic and bio-energy medical systems, combining the care of the mind, body and spirit to address chronic illness, cancer, women’s and men’s health, allergies and physical pain. She practices medicine like a dance, delicately integrating the qualities of the human being with the attributes of the universe to diagnose, find the root cause of illness and treat to reverse the disease and aging processes. She has trained with medical doctors, osteopathic physicians, chiropractors and holistic practitioners across North America and Europe and is involved in the training of naturopathic resident physicians across North America.
Dr Shahram Ayoubzadeh trained as a medical doctor in Senegal, and then came to Canada, where he studies Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine, and became both a Naturopathic Doctor and Homeopathic Physician. His journey into alternative medicine came about because he found it heart breaking to see how powerless medicine was in facing chronic conditions and how little importance it gave to the human being as a whole organism, in mind, body and spirit. It was as if everything he learned in medical sciences – the intimate relationships of all the cells and organs, the deep communion between mental and physical pathologies, the complexity of the body’s innate ability to heal its own wounds – all of this was forgotten and reduced to prescribing a drug which in majority of the cases does nothing more than to control some symptoms. This encouraged him to delve deeper into a rigorous and “scientific’ understanding of the complexity of the Mind-Body-Spirit connection and, as the Spirit component of this connection is completely ignored in the scientific world, he knew he had to dive deep into the vast ocean of the Sacred Writings of various religious and spiritual traditions in order to discover the pearls of wisdom hidden within the hard shells of rituals and superstitious practices and generations of blind imitations.

She uses a holistic, strengths-based approach that helps people recover from anxiety, depression, trauma, and abuse. Her work builds on 30 years of human service work in schools, universities and mental health clinics. While studying sound therapy with various practitioners, she spent 3 years honing her skills by donating hundreds of hours to people with cancer, trauma and chronic pain, as well as to yoga students, young children, meditation groups, disabled adults, and the public. She noticed that people improved much quicker using sound therapy than talk therapy, and now that is the modality she uses most often. In 2005, she founded Luminous Tones Music to promote music that heals and creates group unity. She is known internationally for her angelic chanting that blends seamlessly with the pure, crystalline tones of Alchemy™ Quartz Crystal Singing Bowls. Her soundscapes have been called “magical” and “otherworldly”. They consistently shift people into relaxed states of consciousness normally accomplished only through years of meditation. Links to her CDs and YouTube videos can be found at luminous-tones.com. In 2015 Nancy created a 3-day sound therapy training program which is attended by health care professionals, yoga instructors, musicians, meditators and healers from around the world. Raymond and Furugh Switzer offer therapy and coaching for struggling couples and those wanting to enrich their relationship; and for singles searching for a committed, intimate connection. Their philosophy is that ruptures in relationships to others, especially the struggles with our life partner, often seem to be the most painful experiences in our lives. Although these trials may seem to us the most entrenched, and impossible to work through, there is a purpose to these conflicts: they provide us with a beacon for our maturation and healing from the past. While marriage seems almost designed to bring us to the brink of despair, it also presents potent opportunities for growth and self-realization. Raymond and Furugh are both trained in Imago Therapy and find that working together with couples adds to the power of the therapeutic experience. Couples often find that the insights given from both a male and female perspective and experience add important dimensions to their understanding. In addition, having a live model of a couple exhibiting differentiation and unity in working together signal hope and can add to confidence in couplehood, a crucial element in healing marriages in distress. My life’s work is about understanding and supporting this process in the individual psyche and in communities around the world. I am an educator, writer, psychotherapist, and spiritual counselor. It has been my joy for over 20 years now to accompany people on their path of becoming stronger, more true, more real. I have come to understand that human suffering is not an arbitrary affair, but a magnificent workshop in which the jewel of the human spirit is cleansed and polished, only to shine more brightly as we learn to stand strong, relinquish force, and meet life with grace. When we become aware of that reality in our lives we become spiritually literate and life is no longer a scary affair. Whatever we struggle with, whether it is loss, disillusionment, loss of meaning and purpose, addiction, anxiety, personality disorders, or marital and relational problems, that struggle is also a profound opportunity for us to discover a larger reality, to set ourselves free, and to swim more gracefully and majestically in the ocean of life!
