Introduction

Have you been around anyone who is bitter?  Do you know what Bitterness looks like? Have you been exposed to bitterness in your life?

The world is filled and Bitterness.  It is in our nation, our churches, our families and it is in our personal lives. We often don’t realize how much bitterness we carry and how much it’s ruining our lives.

From the beginning of human history down to this time the world of humanity has not enjoyed a day of absolute rest and relaxation from conflict and strife.  (Abdu’l-Bahá, The Promulgation of Universal Peace, p. 265)

We certainly don’t like to think of bitterness as it applies to ourselves, but it takes many forms, and my hunch is that we all suffer from it.   Maybe you can recognize it by its other names:

  • Acrimony
  • Anger
  • Animosity
  • Antipathy
  • Cynicism
  • Dislike
  • Estrangement
  • Hatred
  • Hostility
  • Indignation
  • Resentment
  • Sharpness
  • Sullenness
  • Unpleasantness
  • Wrath
